You never know what’s going to catch on and become part of internet lore. There are certain things that catch the attention of the internet’s eye and take on a life of their own. On the gaming side of things, one of those unforgettable moments was IGN’s review of Pokémon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire.

The image above comes from IGN’s original review of Pokémon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire. While plenty of people took issue with the review in general, it was the positives/negatives breakdown at the end that drove people nuts. In particular, it was the mention of “too much water” in the negatives section that gamers found downright baffling, instantly propelling the review to meme status.

The “too much water” meme is still referenced to this day, with gamers making comparisons to the infamous snippet whenever IGN shares other controversial reviews. It turns out Pokémon Co. hasn’t forgotten about the meme either, as they just directly referenced it in a social media post.

Pokémon Co. has a new article on their website titled, “Water vs. Land: A Debate for the Ages.” The piece dives headfirst into the discussion of water versus land, and it’s obviously tied to Pokémon Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire as well. To promote the piece on their socials, Pokémon Co. shared the image above. Without a doubt, Pokémon Co. was channeling their inner internet troll with this one, as they’re clearly poking fun at IGN’s review.
