Is Castlevania the long-running game series getting an animated adaptation?

Recently, Fred Seibert of Frederator Studios was on the Nickelodeon Animation Podcast discussing one of his upcoming projects. On the podcast, he mentioned that he's working on an animated project tied to one of the biggest game franchises in the last 30 years. While the speculation naturally lead Nintendo fans to get excited, it seems like the project might be tied to a long-running third party franchise.

Back in 2015, producer Adi Shankar said he was working on a "super violent Castlevania mini-series". In that same declaration, Shankar said that he was working with Fred Seibert on the project. To go further still, it appears that Frederator has owned the rights to a Castlevania cartoon for over 10 years now.

As you can see, there are certainly a lot of points that line up. It's not a done-deal, but it's looking pretty likely that the project is tied to Castlevania. Obviously if the series is going the super-violent route, it's not going to appear on Nickelodeon. As we stated in our original interview, just because Seibert was discussing this project on the Nickelodeon podcast doesn't mean it would air on Nickelodeon.

The gore wouldn't be out of step with some entries in the franchise that took it further than others. I'm excited if this is true. Until then, I'm just waiting to play the Castlevania-inspired Infernax if it doesn't get stuck in production limbo.

CV lll will forever be the king! I wish they would do a 3d classic remake on it already!

I agree... and I was actually thinking it would be a good source for a TV adaptation, since you get the additional spirit characters that join Trevor Belmont in his quest.

Ikr, so need to see how its going to look!

As long it isn't inspired by the Megaman's cartoon or Pachinko XXX violence. Might be enjoyable. Although I wonder how the Castle will come into play, since after the 80s and 90s I haven't seen something taking that much episodes in a single place. :[

It'd be cool if them went full-on Jojo and had a different main character every "arc" or so.

On the one hand, the idea of Castlevania without gameplay still gives me a sad.

On the other, this might be the last chance we ever get to see how the battle of 1999 went down.
