FIFA 18 Switch doesn't have an option to play online with friends

Here's one of those things you never even thought would be skipped over by EA, but then you realize you're dealing with EA. Believe it or not, FIFA 18 on Switch doesn't have an option to play online with a friend. You can match up against random people for online options, but there's no way to join up with a friend for a game. While Nintendo catches flack for some shoddy online options, at least their games have clear options for joining friends. Even Splatoon 2, while still being a bit restrictive in how things are handled, let's you join a friend in a game. How/why did EA make this decision?
