Nintendo's President says his grandkids are better than him at Splatoon 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima may be running a global gaming company, but he still manages to take some time out of his day to play games as well. During an interview with the press, Mr. Kimishima mentioned that his grandchildren play both Splatoon 2 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. While you might think Kimishima would be able to best his grandchildren due to the nature of his job, that's not the case. He states his grandchildren manage to outrank him in both games. Looks like Kimishima needs to spend more time playing and less working!

But its because of him that those games even happened. I mean, being a CEO of a company is alone an accomplishment.

Get gud, Kimishima! (word of advice: don't say this to his face, you may come up missing)

It's less impressive when you learn that his grandkids are 22 and 24.

yamauchi also knew nothing about games, the difference though is that he had to approve EVERYTHING nintendo made whereas you can not possibly do that by yourself.

he also did not like to crunch numbers in ways that suited him best. Nintendo ALWAYS gave sales to consumers and real time polygon count in contrast to other companies. YOU posted projected switch sales on the consolidated statement which is a poor way to advertise your product.

I can only imagine the privilege of being the only kids that can actually say "My grandpa runs Nintendo" and actually mean it.
Still, very funny and cute anecdote.

How is "being good at gaming" related to his work?

I'm a Nintendo fan for 25 years now, it's the most important thing in my life (outside of family, freinds etc. of course), I know a lot of stuff about Nintendo, have played hundreds of games, but yet, my skill level is at best only average, because I never cared about getting good, but only about having fun, enjoying fantasy worlds and gaining as much knowledge about these games as possible.

I'm in the exact same boat, except that I also make them. At my first workplace, I was the worst player of the team... It was surprisingly useful, to give a different perspective on the game. :3
