Nintendo Switch Online further delayed, now coming September 2018

This comes from the latest strategy briefing...

Next let's talk about Nintendo Switch Online, the paid subscription service that expands the online functionality of the Nintendo Switch. We reported previously that the service would launch in 2018, and now the official start time has been set to September 2018. Work is progressing on ways to further heighten the gaming experience for consumers. Details will be made available as they are finalized.

Glad they finally have a date but STILL no details? Jesus Nintendo acts like online is this new thing that's just been discovered yesterday....It's embarrassing.

I thought DeNa was going to help them get their act together with all this.

Just keep it free. It sure would make a lot of people happy, including myself.

Yeah, I'm not a huge online gamer, so I honestly don't care if I can keep playing my Kart, Rocket League, and Splatoon for free... It's more about understanding how they want to appease others out there who want a service more in line with the competition.

At least the rumor is they only want $20ish/year for it. I waste more on poison I pour down my throat each week.

Nintendo themselves said it would be $20-30/year

Not a rumor. Nintendo themselves confirmed it's $20/year a while ago.

Sweet. Yeah, that isn't bad at all then.

$20 is bad if Nintendo's online continues to be garbage though. The voice chat cell phone app didn't instill much confidence.

Haha, that's very true... I really hope this "new Nintendo" takes feedback on these matters a bit more to heart. It's going to be a lot of fun finding out either way, because I'd be lying if I said the crazy stupid stuff they do sometimes doesn't amuse me.

It would cost a lot of money just to keep some people happy, which doesn't seem like a worthwhile investment.

I guess it means we play online for free for longer. I can't complain. But I hope they're using this time to improve their plans. Maybe they'll have a better solution for online chat.

Seems like this’ll be their big E3 draw this year - maybe it’ll be enough to win it!

I feel like Nintendo is more focused on using E3 to announce games and generate future sales hype.

I would be more inclined to believe that Nintendo would have their online program described in a separate Direct where they reveal whatever big game (potentially) they are going to launch with it. My money is on a Smash Bros 4 Deluxe.

...why is this news post getting downvoted? Are people around here so eager to pay up the Online Tax as early as possible? Really?!?

I wasn't delayed.
Date was just 2018 before this announcement.
