Dragon Quest series composer Koichi Sugiyama is the co-host of a TV show in Japan. Recently on that show, Japanese politician Mio Sugita made some very anti-LGBTQ statements. In the video, you can hear Sugiyama laughing along with some of the statements that Sugita made. Once people made the connection between Sugiyama, the Dragon Quest franchise, and the statements made on this TV show, a huge controversy rose. This is all feeding back to Square-Enix, which is now getting complaints about employing someone with this viewpoint.
Sugiyama is yet to release a statement on the matter, and the same goes for Square-Enix themselves. If any statements are shared, we'll be sure to bring them to you.
