Original Mighty No. 9 3DS dev says they made 'zero progress' on the game before it was passed to another developer

Will Mighty No. 9 ever see release on 3DS as originally promised? It seems very doubtful as of right now, and there's been zero talk of progress made in months, if not years. So what in the world happened to the project? The CEO of Abstraction Games, Ralph Egas, explained the situation up to where he parted ways with the game.

"We had a deal in place that partially involved royalties. A deal we've had to agree to in a very short amount of time due to the Kickstarter campaign requirements and the handheld platform version being a stretch goal, etc. At that time I thought this was a great opportunity, but risky. We weren’t involved with Engine Software ourselves, although we have been engaging with them in the past on other projects, just not on this particular project directly."

Due to a number of issues dealing with Comcept, Abstraction Games backed out of the project. According to Egas, zero progress was made on the port, as Comcept failed to provide "intermediate builds and source code until three or four months before they suddenly wanted to launch." This is when Abstraction bowed out, and the game moved over completely to Engine Software. Egas talked more about that shift.

"Engine Software told me about the shiny new deal they had just signed to which I responded 'Well good for you! I guess… I hope you know what you’re doing!'"

As you might guess, any attempts to contact Engine Software about the project have been left unanswered. Either the company is still under NDA, or they simply don't want to talk about the disaster that ensued.
