New details on how Pokemon GO's Poke Stop submissions process works

GN Version 5.0

Pokemon GO players in both Brazil and South Korea are now able to submit their ideas for Poke Stops in Pokemon GO. Just what goes into submitting a Poke Stop? Niantic has shared a FAQ to give you ideas on what makes for a good submission.

Eligible Nominations

High-quality PokéStops nominations are those that help Trainers discover and enjoy their community. To be considered an eligible PokéStop, your nomination must meet at least one of the criteria below.

- A location with a cool story, a place in history or educational value
- A cool piece of art or unique architecture
- A hidden gem or hyper-local spot

In addition to using the above criteria, we also like to see nominations in the following categories which highlight networks and places that connect people around the world.

Public parks

Public parks are great, high-quality places for PokéStops: they are common all around the world and encourage players to walk, exercise and enjoy public spaces. However, park benches, picnic tables, or other common features might not meet criteria unless there is something significant about them.

Public libraries

Public libraries encourage education and discovery. This includes little free library locations, provided they are not on private residential property but does not include mobile libraries.

Public places of worship

Public places of worship are often meeting spaces for the community. This does not include places of worship that also host child care centers, preschools, or primary/secondary schools.

Transit stations

Transit stations connect and unite people around the world. Submit transportation hubs (like Grand Central Station), but not every single small transit stop (like a subway station or a bus stop).

Of course, Niantic also details what kind of locations make for poor Poke Stops. If you want to make sure your picks will never get the Poke Stop treatment, just follow these guidelines for bad suggestions!

We also have some screens of what the actual process looks like from within Pokemon GO itself. Again, this is just for the beta version of the submission process. There's no word on when the feature will leave beta, or become available in other regions.
