GN Version 5.0

John Carmack has certainly done a ton of amazing things in the game industry, and he's continuing his work with games by acting as the CTO at Oculus VR. The next Oculus project to come out will be the Oculus Quest, a standalone device that runs downgraded ports of Rift-caliber apps and games. While the Quest isn't out until early 2019, Carmack is already eyeing up devices he considers competition. One device he named specifically was the Switch.

While Switch and Oculus Quest both provide features/experiences you can only get on the respective hardware, Carmack still sees a tough battle with Switch ahead. Oculus Quest will cost $400, and is launching along with roughly 50 games/apps. The Switch is a hot-ticket item already and boasts over a thousand games, including household names like Mario and Pokemon. The pricetag and powerhouse franchises are going to make it quite tough for Quest to find some footing, but at least Carmack is aware of the challenge ahead. Any details on just how the Oculus team expects to combat the Switch were not revealed.

Thanks to Sligeach_eire for the heads up!
