Whether you're tired of it or not, Minecraft continues to be a juggernaut. The latest report from Microsoft puts the game at 154 million copies sold worldwide. Equally impressive, the game saw 91 million active users for Sept. 2018, which easily outdoes Fortnite's 78.3 million.

Think this data would make Microsoft eager to cash in with a sequel? That's not the case, says Microsoft's Helen Chiang. Microsoft wants to keep players together and prevent support from breaking up between the first and second game.

"I really don't think that makes sense for Minecraft, given the community. It's something that always fractures the community. We're trying to keep our community together. That's why our updates our free. We don't want to ask [players] to move from Minecraft 1 to Minecraft 2. We want them to just enjoy Minecraft. And there's other ways that we can expand that are more meaningful and authentic to what we want to be, rather than just releasing another iteration in the way that most other franchises do."
