Nintendo possibly hints as future DLC for Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Mario Odyssey, and other evergreen titles

Coming from Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa during an investor Q&A...

Titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Super Mario Odyssey are what we call “hardware drivers” in that consumers are very often interested in buying these titles when making a new hardware purchase. Titles released already in the previous fiscal years remain capable of driving hardware sales. The key is to figure out what makes these titles appealing, and how we can get consumers to understand that appeal. Going forward, we plan to incorporate add-on content and other factors that will keep these titles in the spotlight, so they will continue to sell alongside the hardware.

We take the value of software very seriously. What we want with our evergreen titles is to maintain their values as long as possible without lowering the prices.

All I want from Breath of the Wild is to have 30 heart containers and 3 full bars of Stamina. That’s all I ask.

I thought Breath of the Wild was "complete?" Is this due to the new president? I'm still not sure how I feel about that guy, I keep forgetting that he exists.

A DLC could be like an entire new game, like with the xenoblade DLC. If the content is appealing enough, I dont see a reason not to do it.

I'm read this earlier as that there will be DLC for Super Mario Odyssey. I don't think there'll be any more DLC for BOTW. MK8D? I don't know, Nintendo I doubt will put out a sequel on the Switch. There's never been more than one MK game on any single platform, so they may release more DLC to get more customers and maybe entice Wii U owners that haven't spent €60 on something they already own.

But if there is more BOTW DLC, it had better come to Wii U as well.

No just make Mario Kart 9. I've had enough of Mario Kart 8.

What would MK9 really be but just 20 new tracks and 20 “retro” tracks?

Maybe a few new characters, but not many, it’s not gonna be Smash Kart and maybe a few new items.

I’d prefer to pay €20 for another set of new tracks rather than €60 for not much more new.

A different or another hook.. Like anti grav. was for MK8.
Never underestimate Nintendo's creativity to create new and interesting gameplay.

I agree Nintendo should never ever make a new Mario Kart.

Ouch did you tie yourself in a knot trying to twist my words?

It would only be 60 dollars for not much new so why not just gives us DLC packs instead. Anyways I just want a new Mario Kart.

A new Odyssey Kingdom please oh please.

Maybe an actual “ghost/boo theme” Kingdom (I don’t really count the cap kingdom) to coincide with the new Luigi’s Mansion.

Or something new entirely. With another brand new race of kingdom dwellers. Is that too much to ask?

Orrrr

Spoiler

Or sarasa kingdom, Bob omb battlefield, whomp fortress.

I'm getting a real panicked feeling from this new boss. Like he's desperate to keep making money as fast as possible in a short amount of time.

Maybe I'd feel that way if he didn't just say that development takes time and they need to offer that time to the developers. What he's talking about is filling in the gaps between major releases with interesting content for the consumer.

I can't imagine them making very compelling zelda DLC without having to put in too much work. Personally I'm at the point where I've explored that world plenty. I don't need more to add to the area, I need a new area.

can't say I would be excited for new MK8 tracks, been down that road already.

Odyssey DLC though....

If they add DLC to BOTW to make real dungeons that let you complete your hearts and stamina, then I’d be game MK8D I don’t care much for but would like new battle courses, and SMO I’ve hoped for a second quest for quite some time

I'd love new tracks in MK8D built specifically for 200cc. Odyssey DLC is a given, it would be very exciting. Zelda DLC I dont see happening, they've already started work on the next game and I think they've done all they can do with this game without giving it a massive upheaval. I could see maybe more cosmetic stuff and an update that allows you to bypass the weapon break system, but that's not really exciting stuff that he's talking about, I dont think.

To be honest games like Super Mario Odyssey, Kirby Star Allies and ARMS could really use some massive DLC expansions right now.

Star Allies is getting a new mode, which is basically a second part of the story mode. And it's not paid, too.

Why do I have this bad feeling that if Nintendo made more dlc for Breath of the Wild or new tracks for Mario Kart 8 that they wouldn't bring them to the Wii U versions? Surely I am just being pessimistic and Nintendo would never do something that scummy.

Another overwhelmingly negative comment section? This used to be a place of love

It's all right right now.. Not overwhelmingly negative...

I feel like the Zelda door is closed. They already stated it’s done and dusted.

Mario Kart or Odyssey would be more fitting to some DLC.

Odyssey and MK DLC would be amazing! I'd love them to do more with the kingdoms that were just boss arenas, a ghost level would be cool, there's a lot more they could add. Even a new way to play online with actual interaction would be awesome.

Online Koopa races could be cool.

They would, but something with more interaction between players would be fun. Maybe some kind of hide and seek / tag mode?

Odyssey DLC would be cool but I've moved on from that overated title. Now Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC YES PLEASE! How it hasnt happened yet I will never know.

I read this as saying as FUTURE hardware drivers would have better integration/planning of DLC. Not necessarily the existing ones.

Nintendo should not waste time for DLC, they should give us new games in 2 or 3 years from now.

New games are always better than DLC.
