Netflix's Castlevania executive producer says the series 'really over-performed,' third season got greenlit immediately

Adi Shankar is the executive producer on Netflix's Castlevania series, and a couple weeks back, we learned that Season 3 is on the way. In an interview with IGN, Shankar talks about just how successful the series has been thus far.

"It really over-performed. It did crazy well. We immediately got greenlit for Season 3. I wouldn’t have a job if it wasn’t for the fans."

That's so rad. I loved Season 1, but Season 2 just took it to the next level. Can't wait to see what they do with Season 3!

I didn't even know the second season was released. I'll have to check it out.

It's very good, my friend. Enjoy!

That is awesome to hear. This was a genuinely great video game adaptation. It wasn't perfect, but it was absolutely entertaining.

IMO was better than it had the right to be. Considering the source material is very thin in terms of narrative.

I'm disappointed Grant never showed up, but overall it was really well-made and you could tell the people who made it actually cared about the source material. I'm looking forward to more.

I mean if it's still the same era by season 3. There could be room to add him. Maybe one of the forgemasters could turn him into a monster like in the game. It's all about how they want to play with the things they haven't added from the games.

Well I suppose Trevor didn’t take that path in this play through. ;)

I started watching the first season when it came out and found it juvenile and cringy so I didn't finish it. I thought it would do poorly so I'm surprised it did well for them.

Same. The first season tried so hard to be edgy and offensive that I didn't even bother with the second season. I'm disappointed to read that so many people are buying into this dreck. I hope that the rumors of a Zelda series by the same producer turn out to be false...

That's a scary thought about Zelda. Hmm, it looks like Adi Shankar (the producer) just announced Devil May Cry so maybe Zelda is off the hook.

I feel like Nintendo has to be heavily involved in any Nintendo franchise movies. Because they need to feel like Nintendo. For example, I hope the Mario movie by Illumination feels like Nintendo and not Illumination.

The religion thing? There have been many real living people who have used religion to carry out evil agendas. It's a real thing that happens pretty regularly. The show attacks monsters like this through the bishop character and not necessarily religion itself. I don't think that's offensive at all.

It would be nice if a future season presents somebody of faith who is a good guy though.

Well that's the thing--from what I've read, not even the second season does that. And if you read up on some of Warren Ellis' views, it's kind of hard to imagine there's not a bias there. In any case, it's not just the fact that this is yet another "big, bad anti-science religion" portrayal in an entertainment property--although I am sick to death of that--it's that that view Ellis presents of the Church's role in the world of scientific inquiry is actually kind of dated and based on poor research. There have been volumes of books written on how the Catholic Church built universities and promoted scientific inquiry, not halted it.

Were there religious figures who characterized advances in medicine as witchcraft? Undoubtedly. Do such figures belong in the place and time period in which Castlevania is set? Furthermore, do they even belong in the story of Castlevania III? I don't think so.

That's untrue. There are several times in the second season where they talk about God being on their side and such.

That's great to hear! But I accidentally pushed "thumbs down" instead of up... It doesn't look as though it's possible to change.

Edit: yes, it is.

Hopefully Season 3 finishes up with Trevor and company so we can get to the Rondo/SOTN era proper.

Since the church has done more for science than not, sigh: http://www.nobeliefs.com/comments10.htm

tell it to the alter boys...
