GN Version 5.0

After a number of years where YouTube content creators felt restricted by Nintendo's rules, the Big N decided to get a lot more lax with their approach to user-created content. The change was a very welcome one, applauded by fans and creators alike. Now through a Nikkei interview, we get some more insight into why Nintendo made the changes.

Nintendo now says that Let’s Play videos and similar content actually helps convey the appeal of their games to those who are watching. This is something fans have been saying for years now, and it's wonderful to see Nintendo finally agree.

Nintendo also seems to have taken a more pragmatic approach to fan-art as well. When asked about how they feel about fan-art in general, Nintendo simply stated that it’s up to the creators’ interpretation of copyright law. Nintendo may use the long arm of the law when it comes to fan-made games that reuse assets from their games, but other things like drawings, paintings, and more may be a bit safer now.
