GN Version 5.0

A few weeks back, we shared videos from Game Freak that looked back on Pocket Card Jockey, their horse racing-meets-solitaire title for the 3DS and mobile. Now we finally have details on what the team was talking about in those features. Check out the newly-translated info below!

- the project began as a ‘Gear’ project at Game Freak that lets any employee submit game ideas
- the game went through various iterations, with the art style shifting until it took on a more cutesy, simple approach
- at one point, the horse and jockey used pre-rendered 3D graphics
- the music was inspired by Yuji Horii’s Hokkaido Serial Murder Case
- one of the toughest parts of developing this game turned out to be the lack of a proper graphic designer
- if given the chance, the team would like to make it easier to understand the rules of the game, and add real-time versus
- if a sequel were to be made, it might be in 3D instead of 2D
- all three main devs would like to make a sequel
- they'd also like to add in 8-player real-time versus gameplay
- the team notes that people have asked whether the game will be on Switch, but no answer was given
