SEGA confirms game card size as the reason for Team Sonic Racing lacking the intro video on Switch, no plans to add it via a patch

It's always available on YouTube...

Fans were right when they suspected that Team Sonic Racing was missing its intro video on Switch due to game card size limitations. SEGA shared a statement with USGamer confirming the speculation, and also said they have no plans to add it back in.

"The intro cutscene was removed from Switch build of Team Sonic Racing due to the cartridge size restrictions. At this time, there are no plans to add the cutscene back in via patch."

Well, I had ordered it on Amazon but just cancelled it. If SEGA wanted to cheap out and put it on a smaller card and not even just have it as an optional download then I’ll have till it becomes a bargain bin title to fit that attitude.
Publishers shouldn’t be rewarded for taking out content unless they make the game cheaper for the same reason. Capcom, you’re on notice too.

Not the biggest issue in the world...still wouldn’t hurt to patch it in for those who care for it though but oh well.

Well, that sucks. It would be so easy to patch in or make it an optional download.

If you cancelled it over this you never really wanted it in the first place.

Because there are no other options. Not like this game is on PS4 or XB1, right?

You're saying it like everyone can afford multiple consoles...

No, I’m saying it like Sagimewtwo has a PS4.

Is this actually happening? People bemoan publishers for making their games too big to fit affordable Switch cartridges and requiring large updates and now Sega comes along trimming unnecessary fat to keep file sizes down requiring no patches and people complain still?

Some Nintendo fans are bewildering. I hope these kinds of fans are the exception not the rule.

cancelling over an intro movie is beyond silly. There's more problematic things to cancel over like the lack of 60FPS or online team race lobbies with friends, but not the movie...

Actually I'd prefer the movie than unstable fps like the PS4 and Xbone versions.

But the FPS and overall game runs better elsewhere. The movie's hardly a big deal to be lost (even though an update you'd think could add it just fine) so it's silly to have THAT be the dealbreaker

I don't consider unstable framerate better than a stable 30.

Assuming you really did have it ordered on Amazon (why wouldn't they have shipped it by now anyway?) you're cancelling it for a very silly reason. The game isn't bad, though it has legitimate problems, but for this to be the straw that breaks the camel's back for you to cancel the game is absurd.

It's your money, you're free to spend it on whatever. But a little advice is that you may not want to wait for the game to hit the bargain bin because the game is only 3 days old and the online community is kinda barren already. I was live streaming the game on launch day and even though the game supports 12 player online races I was finding lobbies with only 4-6 players on average. It's only going to get worse. Thankfully they fill the empty spots with AI racers, but racing online is the main form of replay value out of games like this.

While I think this is a bummer... it's just the opening cutscene. That thing you always skip before the "Press Start" screen. It has nothing to do with the story, which is told via still images.

I'll just say what I said in the original post about this: That's the least of this game's problems.

At this time, I've no plans to purchase this game. It's always available to watch on YouTube.

From reading different reviews, nothing is lost by not playing this game. It's very mediocre, its predecessor was far better.

Wow..people are bummed up by just an intro being removed..sad.

Stuff like this just makes me more curious of how much these carts cost.

I'd say not that far off from the cost of SD cards, since they're basically a custom SD card... or at least use many of the same components. The thing is, you can buy a stack of blank Blu-ray discs for $5, with about 25 in that... or you spend that $5 on one or two SD cards, so they're trying to keep the earnings in line with the other consoles by minimizing the card capacity.

But then cpmes the next, and very omportant question: how much more do the bigger carts cost compared?

Based on what insiders and devs have noted, quite a bit. Even small carts can be enough to raise the price by $10 if the publisher is too small to offset the cost. 32GB ones are so pricey that they're absolutely not practical and that's why nobody has used them outside of two SE ones in Japan (one that cost $100 and one that was $70 due to SE eating some of the price) since they would hurt any small publisher badly and be a pain for even the biggest ones. If not even Nintendo could be bothered to use them, then I doubt they'll even be normalized.

No DLC plans now this. I'll wait for it to be on sale for $20. If anyone has a problem they are free to buy two copies themselves. I'm still eyeing that soundtrack though.

I realize that being upset about this is more a matter of principle, but it's still pretty lame that they removed it. (But really, I rarely watch the intro video after the first go, so what's the point?)

Anyway, I don't plan on getting it until it goes on sale on Steam or something. I guarantee it'll be one of those games they'll have for $5 on there in the future. Pretty sure that's how I got Racing Transformed... or it was a bundle or something.

There is no reason not to include this other than bone idle laziness. Game is apparently 6.6gb, you're telling me you couldn't fit a 2 minute intro video into the remaining 1gb+ of space?

Hell I could make a maybe 200mb version that'd still retain enough quality with almost no effort.

Restriction? Meaning being cheap?

Oh well, was on the fence about this anyway. Will see if Crash is any good. Hopefully Mario Kart 9 isn't that far away…

Meh. This game is so below the standard set by Mario Kart 8 Deluxe that it's embarrassing. So something like this is hardly surprising. When your direct competition is the latest Mario Kart, you absolutely have to at least meet the basic standards that game set.

Not a good year for Sonic. Of course, he’ll always be second fiddle to Mario. No good games.
