What did the Japanese audience think of Banjo and Kazooie's reveal for Smash Bros. Ultimate?

Were they as happy as we were?

While there were people stateside that were interested in seeing Dragon Quest's Hero join the Smash Bros. Ultimate roster, there's no doubt that the reveal was much bigger over in Japan. It certainly seemed like a decision more tailored to the Japanese audience, whereas the reveal of Banjo and Kazooie seemed more squarely aimed at audiences in NA/EU. Just what did the Japanese audience think of the reveal? Check out a handful of Japanese comments from across the internet below.

I got so excited about Banjo-Kazooie that I cried! Now I gotta go buy me a Switch!!

Sakurai is really kindhearted. He listens too much to what players say. He clearly listened to the foreign audience with Banjo and stuff.

I might have to buy a Switch for Banjo and Kazooie lol

I seriously cried at Banjo-Kazooie

I never played Banjo but I did hear the bird felt really heavy to hold, so I laughed when I saw that the bird really does look heavy in the promo video.

Don't crap on people being happy. If anything, you should just move on about your day or envy them because they are that excited over some little thing like a character reveal for a video game. They don't have problems, they have strong positive feelings and the world needs more of that.

I can see why some Japanese fans are getting excited about it. The Donkey Kong Country games have been quite successful there, and they know Banjo-Kazooie came from the same people who made DKC.

Sheesh. People have problems if video game reveals legitimately make them cry.

Sorry man, it’s weird. I’d have those emotions for my kid being born. People who cry at video game reveals must lose it when important emotional moments like that happen. I think it’s weird when people ball their eyes out during moderately sad movies too.

I don't know I kind of think you're the odd one out here.

No, I’m willing to bet the vast majority don’t cry at these things.

I'm one of the people who wouldn't cry at a reveal, yeah. Though a movie that's designed to make you cry does make me cry, if it's done well

People get these overwhelming emotions for things they're very invested in. Some people cry when their favorite sports team wins the big national or international competition. Some people cry watching movies and TV shows or when those movies and TV shows win awards. And some people cry when they get good news about video game characters they really like.

Hey man. I had tears in my eyes when K.Rool was revealed. After 17 years of waiting for him to be in Smash, 10 years of not being in any games, 10 years of arguing with people online who deemed him "irrelevant", "too fat and ugly to join Smash", "a Bowser rip-off", etc. It can get a bit emotional for characters you love and grew up with. I wasnt bawling or anything like that but I was hyped and proud to know my Smash ballot vote wasn't in vein.

I will say while Im happy K.Rool made it, I cry harder now at the fact that the character is bottom trash teir than when he was revealed. Lol

Banjo is the same way to some people (not me) but I understand why they would get emotional. The characters were long dead with no game for 10+ years and the last game (Nuts and Bolts) wasnt exactly well received. Not to mention the characters were owned by Microsoft a platform "competitor" so them being added was nothing short of a miracle.

That's...weird. Buying a whole console (plus the game and then pay more for the DLC) just because a character was added to a game as DLC? This is just Super Smash Bros. If SSB alone didn't make you buy a Switch, why would a DLC character completely change your mind? I could understand if he/she responded that way to an actual new Banjo-Kazooie game.

If I remember, they were among the more popular choices for the Character Poll for Melee, and even Sakurai acknowledged that they and James Bond were wanted by fans.

I teared up when they were revealed as well. I've been wanting them since Melee and never thought they would actually get in. There's just something magical about smash reveals.

Ugh, that one sanctimonious prick acting like Sakurai is some generous god from on high who deigned to listen to the "foreign" fans.
