GN Version 5.0

Super Mario Maker 2 is now out around the world, and millions of players are having fun building stages and trying out new features. As you might expect, some players were eager to see just what kind of tweaks there were over the previous installment in the series, and some of their discoveries have lead to a bit of disappointment.

Even with the change of a few minor mechanics, entire levels built in the original Super Mario Maker won't work in Super Mario Maker 2. Here's a quick rundown of minor changes between the two games, as pieced together by USGamer.

- a number of mid-air object jumps still work, but the timing is different
- the Spin Jump Grab, which allows Mario to spin jump and still grab an item in mid-air, has been removed
- you can no longer drop an object in the lava and jump/bounce off of it before it disappears
- Galloombas no longer bounce back when thrown against an object
- players can't fly with the Mario World Cape inside a Drybone shell
- Mario is no longer pushed out of walls
- the Poodoboo trick, which some course makers used to put objects in-between grid spaces in the Course Maker, is gone
