Dear Reader:
"Pretending I’m a Superman: The Tony Hawk Video Game Story" documentary in the works
The Tony Hawk video game series may not be up-and-running right now, but for a number of years, it was one of the hottest franchises around. It started out with low expectations, and became a runaway success, introducing millions to the world of skateboarding. "Pretending I’m a Superman: The Tony Hawk Video Game Story" aims to look back at the series' humble beginnings, and follow its climb into stratospheric success.
In preparing for the documentary, all sorts of old test footage and b-roll has been discovered. Tony Hawk himself has been sharing some of this content on Twitter. You can check out some unused motion capture sessions from years ago below.
In keeping with the THPS 20th anniversary, here is our motion capture session from 1999. We didn’t end up using any of this data because there wasn’t enough time to program it into the final game, but at least I got to do a bunch of hard tricks while wearing an embarrassing suit. pic.twitter.com/pHw09SX3tg
