GN Version 5.0

Smash Bros. Ultimate is one of the bigger games on Switch, taking up 14.2 GB for the base game. Today we learn that earlier on in the game's development, Smash Bros. Ultimate was a whopping 60 GB!

This information was confirmed by Bandai Namco, who shared some details on the game's development at a CEDEC panel. Before the dev team worked on compression methods, Smash Bros. Ultimate required 60 GB of space, but the team knew that was going to drop considerably as they tweaked things. After a number of tweaks and behind-the-scenes changes, Smash Bros. Ultimate got down to a much more manageable 14.2 GB.
