GN Version 5.0

Kentucky Route Zero has been in development since 2011. Over on the PC side of things, players have needed every bit of patience possible, as the game's 5 "acts" have taken 9 years to release. The 5th act is available as of today, and has finally drawn the decade-crossing adventure to a close.

On the Switch side of things, Nintendo fans are getting to experience the entire journey all at once. There's certainly something magical to be said for playing a game over the course of 9 years, but I would imagine most would rather have the full game ready to go from day one.

Over the years, there have certainly been little points of story and development ideas that changed. It's only natural to have your life impact your creations as time moves on, and 9+ years is a very long time. With that said, it seems the game's ending has been pretty much what developers Cardboard Computer had in mind from day one.

In an interview with Polygon, Cardboard Computer says that, “this ending more or less has been intact the whole time.” How you get there and what you experience along the way is up to you. The entire journey of the game's creation is an adventure in and of itself as well. You can read up more on that in Polygon's interview.
