GN Version 5.0

Last year, we shared the story of the 87-year-old grandmother who clocked over 3,500+ hours in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. She had been playing the game every day for 4 years, diligently working away on her town.

That story went far and wide throughout the internet, and it no doubt made its way to Nintendo. You couldn't ask for a more wholesome story to tie to one of your franchises! The Big N has shown time and time again that they love fans like this, and are more than willing to do something special for them. That may indeed be the case for this grandma, but it's not confirmed.

In the screenshot above, you can see the new character Audie from Animal Crossing: New Horizons. While Audie doesn't match up visually with the Animal Crossing grandma, there does seem to be a connection. The grandmother's name happens to be Audrey, but in her New Leaf game, she used the nickname Audie. With Audie being a pretty unique nickname, it's hard to think that this name was chosen as a pure coincidence!
