Animal Crossing: New Horizons players are currently battling it out on Metacritic in a review bomb fiasco

A pointless battle

Metacritic has always been a hotbed of activity for flame wars and review bombing, but it seems like things have been dialed up to 11 in the last few months. Countless games have been hit hard by review bombs for all sorts of reasons, and now Animal Crossing: New Horizons is the latest to be caught in the battle.

Right now, Animal Crossing: New Horizons' user scores are all over the play. There's the normal round of scores in the middle, and then there's the extremes on both ends of the spectrum. Some players are hitting the games with 10 out of 10 as quickly as they can to combat others who are lobbing 0 scores at the game left and right.

You might be wondering what the fight is all about. While there's certainly some outliers, it seems the prevailing sentiment from the zero score gang is Nintendo's decision to lock the game to one island per Switch. Now that's certainly a point of contention and well worth being upset about, but I think most of us can agree that it doesn't bring the game from a potential 10 down to a 0. As you know though, it's the internet, so everyone has to go to the extreme.

Metacritic has done very little to step in and set things right with review bombings in the past, so I'd imagine the same will play out here. We'll keep an eye on things just incase they change, but it's likely the craziness will continue for days to come.
