Kirby devs want the next series installment to be the "pinnacle of Kirby games," also interested in a non-action spin-off and more

Sounds like Kirby's future is bright!

Famitsu's feature with the gang at HAL just keeps giving us juicy information. One portion in particular talks to lead action programmer Katsuyoshi Sumitomo, general director Shinya Kumazaki, and design director Riki Fuhrmann about what they want they want to do with Kirby games moving forward. Check out their exciting responses below.

Sumitomo: I really want the next thing we create to be called the pinnacle of Kirby games. I’m positive the Kirby series can become even more fun!

Fuhrmann: For me, personally, I’d really like to make a non-action Kirby spin-off game. …We’re going to have a wide variety of Kirby coming out in the future.

Kumamoto: Each entry in the series has its merits, but I want to make something that exceeds previous games.

Not that hard to top Star Allies. Yeah it was packed with fanservice but the actual game was extremely mediocre. The level design was too bland and linear, the ally system was half baked and made the game wayy too easy, the bosses were boring. I made it to the last world but had to put it down because I was so bored which is a shame considering how good Triple Deluxe and Planet Robobot were before it.

I hope the next Kirby game is either A. True 3D Kirby title or B. A complete reinvention of the formula thats been used since Return to Dreamland..

So... Star Allies was already a celebration of Kirby.... how to top that even more?

Can't wait for that Kirby visual novel! It's about time.

fix the framerate in your engine first. The Switch Kirby games all run like ass which is very disappointing after how blissful they felt on 3DS.

A 3D-full roaming Kirby game. Let's Go!

That's nice and all, but actions speak louder than words. I guess Star Allies was at one point meant to be the "pinnacle", but then... Yeah.

Also, it's important to make a distinction by what they mean by "pinnacle" of Kirby games. If we are talking mainline 2D platformers, I'd say they've long since reached that "pinnacle" with Super Star Ultra, Return to Dream Land and Planet Robobot. Something about the wording here doesn't give me much hope that they intend on tackling a fully 3D entry... I'll believe it when I see it.

If it isn't that maybe, it could attempt having abilities work like skills you collect and maybe bring back the ability to mix them together.

A more involved plot could be interesting, but I expect more llore at this point. Kirby has never been about stories, but the last set of games did had lore bits here and there.

I do hope it is single player at the very least, and if the need to add multiplayer I want them to put it as it's own mode.

yea, framerate on the "stronger platform" than the 3ds was way worse, and thats without the 3D effect, sure it had multiplayer, but didnt kirbys adventure wii run smooth?

I liked the 3ds games and kept playing them, and even if star allies had way more hours of content for the mode i like the most (post game speedrun mode but all enemies too), for some reason ive not played it now in a long while, game eating inputs at times might be connected. Still solid foundation for a multiplayer focused one, piggybacking broke the speedrun mode i think though.

Isn't this what Star Allies was supposed to be already?

It seems to me the series alternates between experimentation and games that are supposed to be classic kirby and are most of the times presented as the culmination of the series.

I'd like a Kirby game that stars Meta Knight for a change.

Interested in a non-action Kirby game, huh? Kirby farming simulator, anyone?

Or make a Switch version of Kirby's Cafe were it's like old cooking mama and you make Kirby treats and candy.

If they want to make it the pinnacle, they need to focus on 60fps. Star Allies was a train wreck at 30fps.

I do wonder if it was because of the multiplayer. Hopefully they find ways to optimize it and it's back to be a single player game.

With that said, it was certainly not a train wreck in terms of sales. Though it had content delivered almost a year later.

Transition to 3D here we come! (hopefully)

Watch as we get our fifth Return to Dream Land clone announced in the next direct

Kirby's Dream Land, Kirby's Adventure, Kirby's Dream Land 2, Kirby's Dream Land 3, Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land, Kirby: Nightmare in Dream Land. (Not sure, but I don't feel Super Star and Ultra feels that much of a throwback in that sense, and Star Allies, I haven't played it so I don't know). So like 6 times or so.

Get IndieZero to make them a Theatrhythm clone with Kirby music (I know Theatrhythm is a Sqaure property, it's just sort of a joke)

I know people give Star Allies a hard time, but honestly, I loved that game, I hope all the Dream Friends get utilised in some way in the sequel if it's in the same vein as RtDL

Nobody ever says, "We want our next game to not be inferior to previous games."

they should make a kirby rpg. could work

could this means that Hal Laboratory will finally make the first 3D Action Adventure Plataform game for the Kirby franchise, that the only way i beleive the Kirby franchise will make to do the next step in the next major game for the franchise.
