Animal Crossing: New Horizons is selling more units than anyone expected, including Nintendo themselves. Copies are flying off the shelves and being downloaded at breakneck speed. That's helping the game set all kinds of records, including a major one in Japan.

We know that Animal Crossing: New Horizons has been topping the retail charts in Japan ever since it came out, but the game has actually surpassed a major milestone. New Horizons, which has moved over 4 million physical copies in Japan alone, is now the best-selling retail game in Japan since 2014. The previous record-holder was Pokemon X/Y, so basically Nintendo stole the record from themselves!
