RUMOR - Nintendo Direct schedule for Aug. 28th, 2020

Directly to us?

When is Nintendo going to host their next Nintendo Direct presentation? It seems like we could have our wish granted in the very near future.

According to GamesBeat's Jeff Grub, Nintendo has something in the works for this coming week.

“I’ve heard a few things and I think there’s a strong possibility that there is a Nintendo Direct next week, on Friday [the 28th]. That’s the date I’ve heard.”

As usual, we don't know what kind of presentation it is. Will it be a Nintendo Direct Mini, a Partner Showcase, or a fully-fledged Direct? I guess we'll have to wait and see!

And even if they showed Zelda BotW2, Prime 4, Bayonetta 3, No More Heroes 3, Mario 64 Remake, Sunshine HD, Galaxy 1 HD, Galaxy 2 HD, Mario 3D World Deluxe, N64 games for NSO including Mario Kart 64 and Mario Party 2 with full online, Odyssey 2, a sequel to Mario + Rabbids, a new DKC, DKC 2 and 3, Earthbound and Earthbound Origins, and Super Mario RPG for NSO, F-Zero GX HD + tease of brand new one, Mother 3 on the eShop for $4.99, Pikmin 4, some games from NintendoLand as part of NSO, Isaac for free for all Smash players, Metroid Prime Trilogy HD and Samus Returns HD, and a remake of Eternal Darkness... people would still complain.

Did I forget anything?

As suggested: A remake of Star Tropics 1 and 2 akin to Link's Awakening and ST3 in full 3D glory, all with the blessing of Genyo Takeda
A remake or port of the first 3 Golden Suns + a brand new one
The Switch Lite will be $199 with a bundled game; The regular Switch will be discontinued; the Super Switch will launch in October, upscaling to 4K when docked and running at 1080p upscaled to 1440p in handheld mode. Players can choose pithing games to stick to 1080p to guarantee 60fps. 2 SKUs 4K dock for $399 and full HD dock for $349

I’ve heard nothing but I also strongly believe a Direct will happen next week.

Its probably just another Partner mini showcase. I just hope they come back stronger than that State of Play like mini we got last time. Cause if you arent a SMT fan and lets be honest not many people are you were stuck with DLC and mediocrity..

I'm a big SMT fan so that last mini direct was all kinds of great for me.

I mean, the only way that its going to not be "not many people" is if they push the game (I suspect they intended to show the game at E3 and it was one of the only trailers they had ready). And it worked, a lot more people watched (and liked) that trailer than any of the prior games had a chance to get.

But also... that Direct was worse than a State of Play. Normally State of Plays have at least a few good announcements, if you count the SMT section as one sort of announcement, that Direct had one.

Also, someone should take stock of these people who usually come out to say direct may be incoming? How often do they get it right? That'll give us a good indication of whether or not we should be excited.

Well Jeff Grub told us about the mini direct on march 26 and about Pikmin 3 deluxe, and also about the EA games that will come to Switch so he does have some credibility

This date was originally rumored by the person who leaked the Feb 2019 Direct's date, as well as that BoxBoy, Mario Maker 2, a 2D Zelda (Links Awakening), and a Pikmin 3 port were all in development, and was corroborated by Grubb, who leaked the March indie and mini Directs (which is the specific part of the rumor currently being reported on)

Jeff Grubs has been very accurate, and not just for Nintendo.

Of course we don't what what type of direct this will be.

The twist: It's a third-party controller direct, and they'll be showing us the newest batch of sub-par controllers from various manufacturers.

I have a positive feeling about to is week. Hopes kept in check tho, as always

It is also typically Nintendo to have a presentation on the first day of a convention (like in past E3's) as the 28th is the first day of GamesCom. Makes perfect sense. Weird I haven't thought about it earlier.

This totally makes sense, but it feels kinda weird that Nintendo isn’t officially a part of the online event. It needn’t stop Nintendo from using the opportunity to promote their own stuff at the same time however.

Thanks to all who responded. So I guess some tempered excitement is in order.

That’d be an OK Direct but where’s StarTropics 3?

I would also love a new StarTropics game!

I have yet to play the first 2. But what about a remake of 1 and 2 akin to Link's Awakening and ST3 in full 3D glory?

Golden Sun 4 is the first thing that came to my mind.

That's a good one. Along with a port or remake of the previous 3

Glad that you got the answer to your question, bud.

Wouldn't Startropics require Genyo Takeda since he's the one behind it and now he's retired? I mean they could ask a western dev like Next Level to try it but still...

Someone: We want a sequel to The Shining!
This guy: WOuLDn'T thAt reQuIrE StaNleY KuBrIck sInCe he MAdE thE oRiGinAl??

Just because the original creator/artist/programmer isn't available, that doesn't mean someone else can't pick up the project. If that were the case, nothing would get continued after that person croaks.

I recently watched Doctor Sleep. Wasn’t bad.

Ok, so then what are the odds of Paper Mario going back to its story and charm without the main writers behind the first two games?

What are the odds of a new Golden Sun game with the artist now dead? All of these can't be picked up by new staff unless the IP holder allows it and it's generally risky to let fresh staff take in as it could only damage the brand as shown for Sonic and Mega Man.

Easy answers: Hire writers that don't suck for Paper Mario, and get another artist for that Golden Sun sequel. You missed the point of my statement. The original people don't NEED to be involved for a game to be good, and having the original creators might actually make things worse. And Sonic Boom wasn't just Big Red Button's fault; it was SEGA's for mismanaging their time and resources in favor of a holiday release date; the cartoon proves that Sonic Boom as a concept not only works, but can work fantastically. The showrunners of the Mega Man cartoon might not have had the best idea for Mega's redesign, but at the point it was made I think it was impressive that Capcom remembered it at all.
Bottom line, you have two choices: take a risk with a new team to attempt to satisfy longtime fans, or wallow in the past and never make a new game because one member of the team is dead and buried. I'd rather have a artistically different game that resolves Dark Dawn's black hole cliffhanger than having no game at all.

And FYI, there's nothing wrong with Paper Mario's writing IMO; it can still be charming for a Mario game, and a couple of lines in TOK made me chuckle. It's the gameplay that's the problem. But seeing how you have the charm of a diseased wombat, I guess you wouldn't be able to appreciate the little things.

EDIT: And before I forget, Kid Icarus: Uprising was developed by a completely new team, a completely different gameplay style, corny writing, and everyone loved it. It had the same length hiatus as StarTropics. Piss off.

I'm fine with the way Paper Mario is but others aren't. And just because you get good writers to fix that doesn't mean it'll work out.

Solved ;)
You can check the original post

Ummm where’s my Switch Pro 8K Deluxe? Otherwise Nintendo are doomed against the new consoles coming this year /s

Best I can do is 4k docked ;)
But I'll add it to the list with some adjustments. I hope you like it :D

WHAT!? No new Wario Ware, Rhythm Heaven, Wario Land, Sin & Punishment 3, Punch-Out!!, Chibi-Robo, Excite, Star Fox, Kirby Air Ride 2, Elite Beat Agents 2, Mario Strikers 3, Mario Baseball 3, Mario Golf, Kid Icarus Uprising Switch port, Xenoblade 3 with a Xenoblade X port, Skyward Sword HD, A double pack of Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD, Splatoon 3, Paper Mario TTYD 2, 3D Kirby game, Mario Kart 9!?

GARBAGE DIRECT! 0/10 GO F*** YOURSELF NINTENDO!!! >Sad

Don't worry... I'll approve all of them, except for Mario Kart 9 - I have something special planned for it ;)

I feel like we have heard new upcoming Direct from a credible source since at least June, so I'm not holding my breath. If it does happen, I'll be pleasantly surprised
