UPDATE - It appears this patent has origins in 2016, but was only just internationally registered in April of 2020.

Nintendo is always cooking up ideas for what's next. Sometimes those ideas pan out and we see these projects release. Other times, they end up being nothing more than patents. What will happen with today's discovery? Only time will tell.

A patent has just been internationally discovered, and it shows that Nintendo is exploring the idea of a standalone Switch Joy-Con. This Joy-Con features an updated design, and it also has no physical way to connect it to the existing Switch. Could this design point to a new future for the Switch, or is it just meant to be something that connects wirelessly to Switch and Switch Lite? Hopefully Nintendo officially reveals this design and we can see what they're thinking!

Thanks to MysteryMan for the heads up!
