Eiji Aonuma comments on Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2's development, hints at location

Back to where it all started

Earlier today, Eiji Aonuma was front-and-center for the reveal of Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. Before he revealed that title, Aonuma did comment quickly on Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2.

“Regarding the Breath of the Wild sequel, in order to make the vast world you enjoyed exploring in the original game even more impressive, the team is working hard on its development, so you’ll have to wait a bit longer before we can provide more updates.”

The way that statement is worded does make it seem like Breath of the Wild 2 is going to take place in the same location as the original. There was some speculation that the game would move to another location, due to the scene in the reveal trailer where Hyrule Castle floats away. This comment from Aonuma certainly sounds like they'll just be adding to the current setting.

I hope they will add loads of interesting things to do, so that traversing the same world again isn't boring. For starters, let us go underwater this time.

Seeing expanded or rebuilt cities would also be pretty cool

I wonder how immediate after BOTW will this take place. How rebuilt might Hyrule be? Will there be less monsters in the wild or will that be left as a sign that Ganondorf isn’t truly gone?

Wonder how the blood moon mechanic will work - it did more than just respawn enemies - it acted to reset the game state, effectively the games version of clearing the browser cache. They’ll probably still need the underlying functionality of the blood moon but hopefully it’ll be wrapped in a new event.

I’m itching and excited for more information about BOTW2.

I think we’ll see significant portions of going deep underground...probably 4-6 times to get/unlock some objects important to the story and sealing away Ganondorf

he's maybe talking about the experience and not literally the current world setting

A big part of what made the original fun was exploring new places, so I hope they are able to do something new and interesting so it doesn’t just feel like a retread. I’ve got faith in the team though.
