GN Version 5.0

Thanks to a handful of new previews for Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, we now have a wealth of information to go over. Check out a rundown of all the new tidbits below!

- all four track gates have to be used
- software is free to download
- point the kart's camera at a QR code displayed on your Switch to sync the two up
- you can also use the camera to take a picture of your face for your virtual driver's license
- the kart does work fine on most carpets and rugs, as long as they aren't too thick
- Grand Prix has you play through a series of 3 races against Bowser Jr. and the Koopalings on tracks you designed
- Custom Races gives you more control over the race track itself
- Time Trials is a race around your track for the best time, and you can challenge a friend or a ghost
- in Time Trials, your ghost and best time are only good for as long as you keep that track design
- there's also local multiplayer, but everyone needs their own kart and Switch
- there is no online play at all
- there are no pre-built tracks
- set up your track gates and drive through them in order to make your track
- 15ft by 15ft is the maximum for your design
- you can ride out of bounds and off-road without penalty
- as long as you ride through the gates in order, you're fine
- Custom Races lets you choose an environment for your races to take place in
- you can go underwater, a rain storm, a snow theme, a sandstorm, an 8-bit theme, and Rainbow Road
- each of the four gates can be changed to different types, allowing for items, boosts, and more
- gates can have magnets, p-switches, Piranha Plants, Amps, item-spinning pipes, Chain Chomps, music notes, and Magikoopa gates
- Magikoopa Gates turn the course into a mirror of itself
- Chain Chomp gates attach a Chain Chomp to the front of your kart, and they jerk you in different directions while driving
- Grand Prix has 8 different cups, along with a mysterious 9th one
- Each cup has 3 races each
- find coins to unlock new costumes (cowboy, builder, knight and more), new karts (flying airship, tractor, and more), and different horns (cat bells, trumpets, and more)
- there's no speaker on the toy itself, but the noise is heard through the Switch itself
- 200cc is included, along with 50, 100, and 150cc
- the different cc ranks does actually make the real karts faster
- drifting is included, but works a bit differently due to the physical toy limitations
- drifting doesn't change your angle, but instead it limits your movement in the direction you're driving until you release the button
- the kart's battery should last 90 minutes at 150CC, less in 200cc, but much longer in 50 or 100cc
- 3-3.5 hours for a full kart charge
- Moo Moon Meadows and other classic track music returns, but it doesn't seem there's much in the way of new music
- when you first start, Mario enters the real world via a warp pipe
- Mario will then tap on the Switch screen and look at you
- you can play handheld or on TV
