Paper Mario: The Origami King is the fastest-selling Paper Mario game yet

Above the fold

Paper Mario: The Origami King is off to a fantastic start for the Paper Mario franchise, having sold 2.82 million units worldwide in less than 3 months. That actually works out to be a new record for the Paper Mario franchise, selling faster than any other installment in the franchise. The previous record-holder was Super Paper Mario, which hit 2.28 million units sold in roughly a year.

Now will it become the best-selling Paper Mario game? Again, it'll have to top Super Paper Mario to make that happen. That title sits at 4.23 million units sold in its lifetime. Seems like The Origami King is well on its way.

This only makes the odds of getting a traditional Paper Mario, ala The Thousand Year Door even more remote.

Prob my favorite Paper Mario game to date.

Side note, I've noticed this becoming many people's first Paper Mario game, particularly with the casual crowd, touching all ages.

It wouldn't bother me to see more Paper Mario games in this style.

Seems to me Paper Mario has a bright future ahead, based on sales.

i don't even care about getting a traditional paper mario i just want one that's good ffs, it's been 13 years

I'm happy I didn't hop on the ol' choo choo negativity train with those game aficionados back whence. Loving this game!

I've given up on wishing for classic PM, so I'm all for more games in this style.

This honestly shouldn't surprise anyone. Every new game in a classic franchise that makes its way to Switch becomes the fastest selling/best selling game in its series. Which is why its a shame Nintendo wont branch out to other smaller franchises like Star Fox, F-Zero, Kid Icarus, Punch-Out!!, Chibi-Robo, Wario Land, etc. on Switch instead of just relying on the same 6 franchises year after year...

It's definitely one of the best ones they've made. Especially since TTYD.

In a drought year, these numbers are not that good. Relax people, Nintendo will rethink their stupid nom-strategy of releasing not real paper marios soon. There was so much drama with this game and let's be real: it could have sold way more than it has sl far. Switch has an install base of 70 million users. These numbers are poor really.

Worst Mario RPG I've ever played. Combat sucked, world design was boring, and humor was so cringe it felt like I was watching an episode of Teen Titans Go.
