Not surprising that there's no Nintendo games amongst the winners. It's been a very forgettable year, apart from Animal Crossing which I don’t care about and isn’t GOTY material imo. Ori and the Will of the Wisps looks great, I'll most likely buy the double pack on Switch when it releases physically.

It's a profitable year for Nintendo moreso than a critically acclaimed one.

Makes one wonder where they should put their efforts considering they didn't had to try that hard as most businesses this year.

EDIT: Even Paper Mario did very well despite the criticisms.

I do wonder if critical acclaimed titles might only aim to reinforce their brand rather than just sell slightly better. *shrugs*

I do think Animal Crossing will be the GOTY in the minds of a good number of people. The industry at large has had a somewhat forgettable year. Look at The Game Awards for this year; every category has the same four games: Hades, Final Fantasy VII Remake, The Last of Us: Part 2, and (for whatever bizarre reason) Ghost of Tsushima. The fact that they have to rely on those same four games for so many categories speak to how lackluster of a year this was.

There are very few games I played that came out this year, so my game of 2020 goes to Super Mario Sunshi- Er, I mean, Animal Crossing: New Horizons!

TLOU2 winning GOTY is all the proof you need that these awards are nothing more than a pretentious insider circle jerk with no value.

And now here's MY opinion on THEIR opinion: 💩💩💩💩💩💩

Here's what the RIGHT opinion is: every game listed that I didn't play is dumb and bad, which is why I didn't play them. So that's why [game my niche subreddit likes] is the game of 2020! Congratulations Waifu Uncovered!! You earned it!
