Milla Jovovich is no stranger to game-to-movie adaptations. She was the lead role in every single Resident Evil live-action film, and now she's the lead in Monster Hunter's big-screen adaptation. That's actually kind of surprising considering the original plan for Monster Hunter had a male lead.

In an interview with Polygon, Milla Jovovich reveals that multiple early scripts for the Monster Hunter film didn't have a female lead. Director Paul W.S. Anderson ran through multiple versions of the script that all varied wildly, but he eventually landed on a version that was female-driven, and once again turned to his wife Jovovich for the role.

“I always tell [Paul], ‘I don’t know what you see in me. He always wants to work with me. So when he brought me this version and said, ‘I wrote this one for you and I think it’s the best one I’ve done,’ I was like, ‘Are you kidding me? We just closed Resident Evil. I’ve been fighting zombies for the last 15 years and now you want me to kill monsters?’”
