Monster Hunter movie tops the box office for its opening weekend

To be completely blunt, the movie industry is in absolute shambles right now. Hundreds, if not thousands of theaters have closed down due to the pandemic, and movie-goers are staying at home for the same reason. This has led to very little releasing at theaters, and even fewer people checking movies out.

This rough situation for Hollywood has resulted in box office numbers that are far, faaaaaaaaar below what we normally see. Case in point, the opening for Monster Hunter. The film managed to take the #1 spot for its opening weekend, but it did so with just a $2.2 million purse. That figure would be considered quite a low number on any normal weekend at the box office, but we aren't living in normal times right now.
