Fortnite's 'Rebellious' emote will uncensor the word 'devil' in future update
The devil made them do it
This week, Fortnite got the new ‘Rebellious’ emote, which features Doja Cat’s song “Paint the Town Red”. Strangely, the word “devil” was censored when the emote was used in game. This meant that a good portion of the song’s lyrics were muted out from the song clip, which was only a few seconds long to begin with.
According to the official Fortnite Status account on Twitter, this censoring was a mistake. They have confirmed that they’ll be restoring the word ‘devil’ to the song, so that it matches the version of the song found elsewhere in the game as a Jam track.
No word yet on exactly when this fix will be in place, but they’ll most likely just drop it in whenever the next update comes. Soon, you’ll be able to hear the word ‘devil’ with impunity once more. Stay tuned.
Fitness Boxing feat. HATSUNE MIKU rated by ESRB for Switch
Time to get in shape
Fitness Boxing feat. Hatsune Miku has yet to be officially announced for a Western localization, but the evidence is piling up. Last month, it was rated by the Australian gaming classification board, and now the ESRB has gotten in on the fun as well.
The ESRB has officially given Fitness Boxing feat. Hatsune Miku a rating of E for Everyone. No other details can be gleaned from the rating other than a basic description of the game. Still, this should be a good sign that the game is much closer to a localized release! Stay tuned as we await an official announcement.
Trackline Express arrives on Switch April 18th, 2024
Get your tickets ready
Bubblebird Studios has announced that their chaotic railway manager Trackline Express will be launching on Switch on April 18, 2024. You can find it now on the Switch eShop, where it’s listed for $12.99.
Alongside the release date announcement, a brand new trailer has been shared, which you can find up above. See below for more info!
Embark on a thrilling journey through an unforgiving desert. Gather scarce resources and utilize your strategic skills to build a train capable of overcoming attacks and fires.
ALL ABOARD
Get your tickets to ride the Trackline Express today! Small disclaimer: there might be some missing rails sections. And occasional barbarian attacks. But don’t worry, our trains are the most reliable out there. Some just require a few upgrades here and there. Other than that, a perfectly fine ride is awaiting for you! Did we mention wildfires?
Trackline Express is a train builder where you need to reach the stations while keeping your passenger safe from attacks and wildfires. Gather wood, rocks, ores, coal, and then transform them into various resources to create new buildings and equipment using blueprints that you unlock along the way.
The game offers a unique blend of gameplay elements that could appeal to players who enjoy strategy and resource management and to those looking for a more relaxed and cozy gaming experience with occasional exciting twists.
GATHER RESOURCES
There aren’t many resources in the desert, so you’ll have to think about how to use them in the best possible way.
UNLOCK BLUEPRINTS
You’ll need to collect enough coins to unlock blueprints in order to build anything. Once a blueprint is unlocked, it’s freely available. Coins are rare around there, so use them wisely.
BUILD
With enough resources and the right blueprints, you can create multiple buildings and equipment to help you keep going forward and survive. What will you build first? A mine to get the coal for the train? Or maybe a well for your water tank? Unless you choose equipment to defend yourself against an upcoming threat… Each game is different and might require different prioritizations. Adaptation is key.
DEFEND
Attacks are frequent. You’ll have to fight to protect your convoy. Fortunately there are a few items you can use. As more passengers arrive, you’ll have to be more creative with how you use them.
KEEP THE TRAIN GOING
Feed your train with fuel, build new wagons and new equipment to defend against, well, basically everything. Try to automate things to keep moving as the game gets harder and harder with time and distance.
FEATURES
- High replayability value
- Many items to gather and craft
- Multiple game modes
- Mini quests to complete
- Random deterministic map generator

Penny's Big Breakaway director on transitioning from 2D to 3D design
That's a whole extra D!
Penny’s Big Breakaway is a modern throwback to classic 3D platformers of the 90s, but its team actually had more prior experience in the 2D realm. Directors Hunter Bridges and Christian Whitehead both came to the project after working on Sonic Mania, a game fans praised for being true to its sidescrolling roots. With Penny however, they knew they wanted to take things in a new direction from the beginning.
In a new interview with Inverse, Hunter Bridges elaborates on the challenges involved with going from one gameplay style to another. According to him, this meant a pretty big shift in the way the team approached enemies and level design:
“Does my approach to making levels translate to three dimensions? For example, in 2D, I don’t like using bottomless pits. I don’t find a need for them when I can make several other interesting scenarios. But with 3D, the ‘void’ is unavoidable. The bottomless pit is the enemy in the game.”
“You look at Mario and the Goomba. The perfect enemy in 2D, but in 3D you can just walk around them.”
We’ve seen plenty of franchises make the transition from 2D to 3D over the years, some with more success than others. It sure seems like design concepts need to be adjusted in the process, as simply copying over elements from 2D to 3D is much tougher to make work. Bridges explains that this philosophy led to an emphasis on momentum and staying in the air, which can be seen throughout Penny’s Big Breakaway.
In the interview, Bridges also elaborates on the origins of the project and other behind the scenes tidbits. Click here to read it for yourself.
Pretendo Network fan group hoping to restore Wii U/3DS online services
Could the Miiverse rise again?
As of yesterday, all online services for the Wii U and 3DS are officially nonfunctional. Nintendo has decided that it’s not worth the effort to maintain their servers for outdated consoles, but this might not be the end. A group of fans has decided to take matters into their own hands.
Pretendo Network is the name of a new effort being spearheaded by a team of fans and software developers to allow players to experience Wii U and 3DS games online once more. When it’s ready, this will be an open source platform of custom servers, able to utilized within older games that could contact the Nintendo Network. Theoretically, it should work just like it used to, even allowing for services such as the Miiverse. Right now however, nothing is available, as the project is still in development.
Unfortunately, there’s no real timeline for when Pretendo Network will be online. They do have a full progress report to show you just how far along they are for various games and services. You can also donate some money to help further the cause. Nintendo may have shut down their servers, but as long as the fans are dedicated, there’s always another way!
