The Nintendo Switch is Five Years Young
Half a decade never looked so good
The Nintendo Switch is five years old. Let that sink in a bit. Actually, you probably have already, since this article is coming a few days after the actual anniversary, and tons have shared their sentiments thus far. Even if that’s the case, indulge me for a moment as I briefly walk down Memory Lane to look back on the Switch, and also ponder what the future holds for our favorite hybrid console.
The wait for the Switch seemed almost longer than the five years the system’s been available. To be blunt, the Wii U was a commercial failure, and third party support dried up pretty quickly after launch. Furthermore, with Nintendo supporting the 3DS at the same time, first party Wii U games were few and far between. The Wii U is still beloved by many Nintendo fans, but no one can deny that from a sales standpoint, the platform was a massive disappointment. Not too long after, it was clear the 3DS was riding off into the sunset as well, causing speculation to pop up concerning Nintendo’s next move. After such a rough period, would Nintendo remain in the hardware business at all? Would the then-codenamed NX actually come to fruition?
Kirby and the Forgotten Land Demo Out Now
Swallow It Up
Ever since it’s reveal at last September’s Nintendo Direct, the excitement around Kirby and the Forgotten Land has been building. The premise of an open world 3D Kirby adventure have people itching to get their hands on the game - and a new demo just released on the eShop will allow players to give it a try!
The free demo is three levels long and even includes a boss fight, so it is no slouch when it comes to length, but also won’t give away the farm, either. Give Mouthful Mode a spin before the full game releases on March 25!
Miis Speed into Mario Kart Tour
Mama Mii-A!
A new update to Mario Kart Tour has arrived, and it sets the stage for a return to the spotlight for Nintendo’s popular avatars known as Miis.
As with Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the Miis will have character-themed racing outfits and they will be featured in what appears to be a new Cup competition specifically for this event. Outfits will come in separate waves and have different and unique power-ups and abilities. Also of note is the peek we get of Mushroom Gorge, a track making an appearance from Mario Kart Wii.
The Mii Cup and Miis will be available beginning on March 8th at 10pm Pacific Time. A trailer can be seen below.
The Cuphead Show: Back for More
A Tasty Refill
Netflix has announced that The Cuphead Show will be back for more with new episodes later this year. The series is based on a popular (and notoriously difficult) hand-drawn game that debuted as an Xbox exclusive but has since also made it’s way to PS4, the Nintendo Switch, and PC. Despite initial negative reviews and feedback, the show has been a draw for the streaming service since it’s debut in February.
The second wave of episodes have been given a vague debut date targeted for this coming summer.
