Fortnite shares new trailer and details for new "Reload" mode, releasing on June 22nd (UPDATE)
Run it Back
Fortnite have announced a new mode dropping tomorrow called “Reload” and have released the above trailer showcasing the mode as well as many popular Fortnite content creators.
What is the Reload mode exactly? While full details haven’t been shared yet it seems to be a game mode that returns to the more classic gameplay of Fortnite’s early days with a smaller map consisting of familiar locales. You can get a small taste of the new map and returning locales in the post below
Fortnite as a game has changed quite a bit since it started back in 2017 and this mode seems to be a solution for lapsed fans who miss the classic set-up. Fortnite Reload launches tomorrow June 22nd, 2024 after 2pm ET, we’ll keep you posted on any new details that Fortnite may announce for the mode.
UPDATE: We now have the full details on this new mode, and you can read the complete breakdown below.
New Map. New Mode. Welcome to Fortnite Reload, a new action-packed mode for Battle Royale and Zero Build with classic weapons, classic locations, and classic vibes for you and your squad launching Saturday, June 22, shortly after the 2 PM ET concert!
Taking place on a tighter map, featuring familiar locations like Tilted Towers and Retail Row, Fortnite Reload is a 40-player Squads experience where if eliminated, you can reboot… so long as one member of your four-person team remains! The Storm moves faster in Fortnite Reload and a full team wipe means Game Over. Check out the trailer for Fortnite Reload here.
HOW IT WORKS:
When eliminated, you can opt to start your reboot timer instead of waiting for a revive.
Reboot timers begin at 30 seconds and scale up to 40 seconds later in the match. Remaining teammates can reduce timers by downing or eliminating an opponent, or by wiping an opposing squad.
At the end of the timer, you’ll reboot!
Towards the end of the match, reboots will stop, meaning eliminated teammates can no longer return.
FORTNITE RELOAD REWARDS:
Fortnite Reload has intro Quests rewarding 20,000 XP each. Complete three to unlock the Digital Dogfight Contrail, six for the Pool Cubes Wrap, and nine to get the NaNa Bath Back Bling! If you bag a Victory Royale, you’ll snag The Rezzbrella Glider!
Earlier this year we got the announcement that multiple Tears of the Kingdom characters would be receiving figures from Good Smile, particularly Link, Ganondorf, and Zelda. While Link and Ganondorf had prototypes ready to show at the time Zelda only had a teaser image until today.
As you can see both in the post above and the larger image below this figma features both Princess Zelda and the rusted Master Sword, though both are still without paint. There is still no word when this figure will be ready to pre-order and release but when that noise drops you can be sure we’ll be here to tell you.
Sky shines because of the mosaic that players create. It brightens not just the realms, but the entire player community in and out of the game. This month, we celebrate that mosaic with the return of Sky’s most vibrant event: Days of Color!
For two weeks starting on June 24th PDT, a kaleidoscope of brilliant rainbows, shining capes, and colorful Spirits will celebrate the diverse world we share. To join in, talk with Spirits in Aviary Village or Home and they’ll teleport you to a bright, spacious area floating above the clouds above Daylight Prairie Village.
There you’ll find a rainbow puzzle that grows each day. Complete that puzzle and you’ll reveal a new Days of Color feature that can satisfy your Sky kid’s need for speed. Don’t have what you need for the puzzle? Take a dip in a magical geyser nearby that will add a special splash of color to your cape (and more)!
With a host of updates for this year’s event, you just might find yourself in your new favorite place in Sky, too. These festivities are all about celebrating the tapestry we create together, sharing a message of hope and the beauty of a world where all colors can shine.
While you soar around the event area, look for four rainbow-shaped event currency around the area. Don’t forget the one you’ll get from completing the day’s color puzzle, too! Use these to unlock this year’s new in-game currency items: a colorful glam cut hairstyle, and a dark, stylish rainbow mask.

We’ll be making a donation to The Trevor Project in association with the Days of Color campaign, so stay tuned for announcements that reveal the total amount after the event has concluded. We invite you to join us in supporting The Trevor Project this month!

A staple of the Metroid series since it’s inception is Samus amassing a large arsenal of weapons and tools that she can use to eliminate foes and explore alien planets, and another staple is the fact that she loses most if not all these abilities by the time the next game rolls around.
The way she loses her powers varies, sometimes an explosion slams her into a wall damaging her suits components, sometimes an alien parasite infects her suit rendering it useless, and sometimes it just isn’t explained at all. Nevertheless, it’s practically guaranteed you won’t be starting Metroid Prime 4 with the Power Bombs or Space Jump already at your disposal. This does beg the question though, does Samus need to lose her abilities for the Metroid Games to work? According to Metroid Dread’s Director José Luis Márquez via an interview with Gamereactor, yes she does.
In the case of Metroids, yes, it has to be like that. You can’t start the game without losing things. It’s mandatory. Otherwise, I think you would be disappointed. It’s like, what? You get everything from the beginning? It can’t be!
Márquez goes on to elaborate on his other design preferences for Metroid-vanias, for example he believes the gameplay thrives best with a shorter total playtime. He goes on to elaborate that a more compact experience can still leave a player satisfied and that a longer playtime runs the risk of introducing filler into the game. Considering the Metroid series encourages the player to speed run the game on subsequent playthroughs we can certainly see where he’s coming from.
He then goes on to add that he personally isn’t a fan of including Souls-like elements in Metroid-vania titles. While he understands the appeal for some players he claims that he is “not one of those who likes to make it hard for the players.” which is ironic considering how much Metroid Dread was praised for it’s difficulty at the time of release.
What are your thoughts on all these ideas? Does Samus need to lose her abilities for a Metroid game to work? Should the series consider pushing for a longer runtime or dabble with souls-like elements? Let us know in the comments below.
GuliKit announces Hall effect 'anti-drift' sticks for Switch Pro Controllers coming later this year
Stick it to the Drift!
Control stick drift has unfortunately been a burden for the Switch since it’s launch in 2017, however GuliKit has been offering a solution. For a while the peripheral manufacturer has sold stand alone Hall effect “anti-drift” sticks for Joy-Con and now The Verge is reporting they plan to expand this offering to other controllers.
GuliKit plans to release Hall effect control stick upgrade kits for Sony DualSense, DualShock 4, Xbox Series gamepad, and the Nintendo Switch Pro controller. To be clear, these are not full controllers but rather control sticks that you will have to attach yourself so while it’s not an ideal solution to the drift problem it is still an option for those frustrated with the state of their controllers.
Other than the confirmation these kits will be available to purchase later this year and the promise they contain “a very new patented technology which is different from our current hall effect joystick.” there isn’t much additional information at this time. We will keep you updated on new details of these stick kits as they become relevant.
