La-Mulana 2 dev feels the Metroidvania label doesn't tell the whole story of what the game offers
La-Mulana 2 director and designer Takumi Naramura wants to set the record straight on his game. He feels that people often incorrectly label the series as a Metroidvania. While Naramura believes the game certainly has some characteristics related to that genre, there's more to it than that.
“It’s often categorized as a metroidvania, but while it contains some metroidvania-characteristic features such as using items to expand your range of activity, I feel that La-Mulana’s most characteristic feature is solving puzzles to expand this range of activity.”
