A new Mortal Kombat film is in the works, and it's going to be R-rated, which is something the original live-action adaptation or its successor had the luxury of. Now we'll see Mortal Kombat in all of its gruesome glory on the big screen, which should certainly make longtime fans happy.

That said, plenty of Mortal Kombat followers still have fond memories of the first movie. It may not have gone over-the-top with violence, but it still managed to capture the spirit of the franchise. That's thanks to Paul W.S. Anderson, who directed the movie, and is a Mortal Kombat fan in general.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Anderson was asked about the upcoming live-action adaptation, and it's pretty clear he's hyped up for it.

"I'm a fan of Mortal Kombat, so I wish them well, and I'm excited to see what they come up with I'm going to show up as a fanboy."
