Gaming schedules have rarely been busier than this year, as huge releases are being dropped left and right across all platforms. Just last week, two highly anticipated titles, Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Spider-Man 2, both dropped on the exact same day! This could have resulted in some good old fashioned console wars, but most seem to agree that both games are worth celebrating.

That includes Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai, who shared a post on Twitter with his reaction to the two games. First, he lamented the challenge of their shared release date, then he praised them both. See below for his tweet, as well as an English translation.

I finished “Spider-Man 2” and “Super Mario Bros. Wonder” last night. It’s a problem when the release dates of big titles you should watch overlap…! However, I think both are masterpieces that I can recommend to anyone. The new games are amazing, and I’m grateful to them for making them.

Everyone may not have the luxury of being able to play both games close together, but it’s clear that when it comes to gameplay, there are no losers here. It’s also nice to see a developer like Sakurai praising both titles instead of playing favorites.

Both Super Mario Bros. Wonder and Spider-Man 2 are available now on their respective platforms! Here’s hoping we continue to have the problem of having too many great, high profile games to play.
