The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time was absolutely legendary for its time, breathing new life into the long-running Nintendo franchise. Ocarina of Time remains an incredibly important part of Zelda history, but there’s no doubt the game is a bit long in the tooth nowadays. That doesn’t mean it can’t learn some new tricks though…especially if you’re a modder.

One of the gameplay evolutions that Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom added over its predecessor, Breath of the Wild, was the Ultrahand ability. This ability allows Link to grab multiple objects to move, manipulate and connect them into basically whatever you can conjure up. While this feature alone makes Tears of the Kingdom feel wildly different than Breath of the Wild, it turns out it does the same for Ocarina of Time!

Modder notCHase decided they enjoyed Tears of the Kingdom’s Ultrahand ability so much that they wanted to retrofit it into other Zelda titles, and the first one they’ve tackled is Ocarina of Time. In the video above you can see the mod in action, and while it’s a bit limited as compared to what you can do in Tears of the Kingdom, it still works surprisingly well.

Obviously, this mod makes all sorts of impossible things possible, and it breaks Ocarina of Time in a multitude of ways. That’s all part of the fun though, isn’t it? On top of that, it’s pretty interesting to see how the core ideas of a Zelda game in 2024 could still be somewhat achieved in a title from the mid 90s!
