PlatinumGames’ shoot ‘em up Sol Cresta launched a couple of years ago at a fairly steep price of $39.99 USD. However, starting today, the game will now retail for $17.99 USD, the company has announced. The ‘Dramatic’ DLC has also seen a price cut from $9.99 USD to $5.99 USD.

Fans who are interested in jumping on with the new price point can purchase the ‘Sol Cresta Complete Set’ package, which features the game, the ‘Dramatic’ DLC and the exclusive ‘Legendary Fighters’ pack, adding 3 new fighters to the game. This bundle retails for $24.99 USD, but can be purchased for $22.49 USD for a limited time.

Sol Cresta takes the docking and formation strategies of classic shooting games Moon Cresta and Terra Cresta and elevates them with the “free-form docking” system. The flagship Yamato, composed of the fighters Amaterasu, Tsukuyomi, and Susano can utilize various attacks depending on how the three ships are aligned. Docking, splitting, and reforming the ships as needed is the key to defeating the invading armies of Mega Zofer.

The game is fantastic and well worth that asking price. That said, skip the "dramatic" DLC unless you understand japanese. It's all voiced in japanese, and since playing a shmup means actually paying attention to the play field at all times, reading the dialog is basically impossible, making it worthless.
