Wii U and 3DS online play is no longer available
You'll need a Switch to keep playing Splatoon
As of the posting of this article, Wii U and 3DS online play is no longer available for any title on either platform, barring Pokémon Bank and Poké Transport. Fans looking to play games like Mario Kart, Smash Bros. and Splatoon online will now need to turn to the Switch, with no other alternatives.
It’s a shame to see so many communities shut down. Hopefully we soon get some sort of successor to online games that have no Switch alternative, such as Kid Icarus: Uprising.

23d agoactually its in a strange limbo state.. those who were active playing before the shutdown are still actually able to play as of now (if they are still awake).. someone is still streaming MM1 since pre shutdown last night.. only those who closed or lost their connection to the game server lost access to it.. its just refusing all new connections..

23d agoI was playing MK8 online this sunday until 0:00 hour. Then I got kicked from the server and couldn't get online anymore.
Not fun.. This was basically the only game I played online. I payed for the console, the game and the internet and now it is dead :( I can not use this console anymore (which is still a perfectly fine piece of hardware) for what it should be able to do. Such a waste, if nothing changes it'll be just a few years for the plug to be pulled from the Switch as well..
