Ubisoft has announced that they will be closing the online services for a number of their older games, effective September 1st, 2022. Included on the list are three Wii U titles: Assassin’s Creed 3, Rayman Legends, and ZombiU. See below for full details on how the loss of online services will affect these games.

Assassin’s Creed 3

You will be unable to play multiplayer, link Ubisoft accounts in-game or use online features.

Rayman Legends

You will be unable to link Ubisoft accounts in-game or use online features.

ZombiU

You will be unable to link Ubisoft accounts in-game or use online features.

According to Ubisoft, shutting down the online components of these games allows them to “focus our resources on delivering great experiences for players who are playing newer or more popular titles.” It’s always a little disappointing when any part of a game stops being playable for future generations. That said, the decision is understandable as it’s unlikely these titles were seeing much online activity on the Wii U.

If you’re a fan of the online experience when it comes to Assassin’s Creed 3, Rayman Legends, or ZombiU, you have until September 1st to keep enjoying them until Ubisoft ends their online aspects for good.

I must get back to playing ZombiU before then, never got far. It's been so long, I don't really remember what the online features were. I think you could leave clues for others and vice versa. I think it was leaderboards for Rayman Legends, again, it's just too long to be sure.

That Rayman legends online was addictive in its heyday. Everyone I knew was playing it. Rip.

Yeah I think you could leave clues, and also if someone on your friend list died during their playthrough, there was a chance the zombie version of them might show up in your playthrough (their name would be displayed over the zombie's head) and you could kill them and take whatever items they were carrying in their backpack. The actual multiplayer mode itself was local only.

And yes, Rayman Legends was just an online leaderboard. Even the soccer mini-game was local multiplayer only. No big loss there.

Assassin's Creed 3 I didn't even know it had an online multiplayer mode.
