UPDATE: Kit Ellis, former Nintendo employee, has shed some potential light on this situation. You can see his exact comment on the matter below.

These major videos typically have music or actors which are licensed for use for a year, then need to be renewed or taken down. Switch OLED was announced a year ago tomorrow. This is most likely nothing.

ORIGINAL POST: We’ve been speculating about a potential successor to the Nintendo Switch for a long time now, and while we’ve received new models in the form of the Switch Lite and Switch OLED, a “Switch Pro” has yet to rear its head. Now, there more be some more fuel for the fire, as a development on Nintendo’s YouTube channel is being seen as a possible indicator of news on the horizon. A new video from GameXplain (seen above) runs through this development and its possible outcomes.

As discovered by user LukasManak22 on the Famiboards forums (and confirmed later on by user Meelow), Nintendo has set two of the videos on their official North America channel to private: the trailers for the Switch Lite, and the Switch OLED. Previously, these videos were both freely viewable by the public, but now are nowhere to be found. It’s been pointed out that Nintendo also made the trailer for the Switch Lite private shortly before the reveal of the Switch OLED, thus leading to speculation that they could be doing the same now in preparation for another new announcement. If true, they could be making these videos private in order to focus all their efforts (and consumer’s attention) on something new.

We’re still in the midst of the “summer of games”, during which several developers and publishers have held press conferences for new announcements and game trailers. Nintendo has yet to share anything beyond a special third party direct, as well as one focused only on Xenoblade Chronicles 3. Could they still have something else up their sleeve, and could it be the announcement of new hardware of some kind? If so, could it be a Switch Pro, or even a Switch 2?

Of course, making some YouTube videos private is hardly confirmation of anything, and this could very well lead to nothing. It certainly wouldn’t be the first time we’ve run into false rumors of a new Nintendo console. But maybe, just maybe, this time could be different. Stay tuned as we wait eagerly for any more information!

I don't know if a Switch Pro is a good idea at this point. I think a new console in a few years makes more sense.

Now's a really bad time for them to release a new console for me...I just made a huge purchase, so I'm gonna just need Nintendo to release any expensive new consoles a couple years down the line at least please. Thanks.

/s (but not really because I don't want to spend the extra money right now...)

To be clear, meelow did not discover the video was private.

Famiboards user LukasManak22 discovered that the video went private - meelow just shared that information in a new thread on Famiboards and Era.

Here's the post where LukasManak22 discovered it! -

I would expect it, they usually (someone should check what dates) announce a new console iteration in early or mid july, so unless its annouinced already on friday, I would guess on wednesday just because of that pattern. Probably need a significant upgrade to stand a bit better against the Steam Deck (even if the marketshare sure is on nintendos court right now) for the portable gaming market.

Thanks for pointing that out! Updated the original post to give credit to LukasManak22.

Really grasping at straws here, aren’t we? People like to make out that Nintendo is this grand company that has every single second of every single day planned out. But maybe they’re just as dysfunctional and normal as any other company and when they do something it doesn’t mean that there’s a master plan being put into action… But some people have made a business out of watching Nintendo like this so who am I to judge?

I also don’t really get the title of the article. Is the rumor that Nintendo made some YouTube videos private? Because that’s not a rumor; that happened. Or is the rumor that there is Switch Pro speculation? That’s not a rumor either; the speculation happened. Or is the rumor that there is going to be a Switch Pro? Okay, that’s a rumor. But that rumor’s so old, my grandma’s dog doesn’t even bring it up anymore.

Hhmmm, why would Nintendo put these videos on private at all if there's nothing happening? I think there's a new Switch model coming, maybe it's just an OLED Lite. But I've said previously that that model doesn't really make sense anymore as Lite sales are down and it's an inferior model. The whole point of the Lite was to make it cheap and bring people who only care for handheld gaming into the fold. An OLED screen would drive the price up, then what size would the screen be? Would it be a Switch Lite XL OLED?

Nintendo have done enough concentrating on the handheld market. It's time for a Switch Pro or a dedicated home Switch. You can say it's a bad time to release a new model with the chip shortages, but Nintendo can't sit on their laurels and there was the rumours, more than rumours that dev kits were sent out. Those devs can't hide their projects forever and probably want to show them off. Then there's the fact that Nintendo haven't had their usual Direct for this time of year. It could be tied into the reveal of a new model. Even if Nintendo can't produce a tonne of Switch Pros, they still have the other models to sell. The Pro would just be another string to their bow.

Hmm. A “dedicated home Switch.” Now THAT’S an interesting concept. What if Nintendo releases a small Roku-sized box with a slot for game cards. No Joy-Cons included (though they could still be sync’ed to the console if needed). No dock (obviously). No screen, since it’s only for home use. Maybe it comes with a Pro Controller and sells for $99 bucks. Plays games only in “docked” mode. What say you, Internet?

@popple

Where's the straw grasping at? You don't think it's odd that only the videos for the Switch consoles were made private? Same thing happened with the OLED last year.

They should just make the OLED standard at this point and remove the older model.

Switch pro to be announced before November. You heard it here first folks.

Why would they only have these videos up for 1 year? That seems VERY counter productive if you want to keep selling OLED Switch's when there's no more videos for it. Unless they have a new video planned but why go to all that trouble then?

@noxide

Nvidia Tegra X1 chips stopped manufacturing. Nintendo bought 30 million to last them either throughout the year or into the next. They HAVE to release a new console because they literally won't have any Tegra X1 chips

I have been planning to pick up another switch this coming christmas as a present for one of my family members, but this does throw a curve into my plan. I would certainly get the "new" model, whatever that would be, if so though. But I would be displeased if it were to come out in march of 2023, just after the holiday times. Either way, the making of the videos private seems odd at this particular time.
