Dotemu is the developer behind Streets of Rage 4, as well as the remake of Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap. It’s no secret that Dotemu has an affinity for retro projects as well as beat’em-ups, so you’d most likely think their team contacted Nickelodeon about creating TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge. In actuality, it was the other way around.

According to a profile in EDGE magazine, it was Nickelodeon who reached out to Dotemu first. Nick had seen the studio’s work on titles like Streets of Rage 4, and they were clearly impressed. That’s when they reached out to Dotemu about the possibility of working on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise.

Once Dotemu verified that the point of contact was legit, they jumped at the chance to do a TMNT game. It’s no surprise that getting to do a classic TMNT beat’em-up is a dream come true for Dotemu, and Nickelodeon clearly saw that the collab would be a match made in heaven.

Glad they reached out, that's a nice combination of classic franchise and developer.

Dotemu is not developing Shredder's Revenge, only publishing. As discussed in the linked article, the game is being developed by Tribute, which developed Flinthook and Mercenary Kings and whose founders worked on Scott Pilgrim.
