The Super Mario Bros. Movie now the second highest-grossing animated movie ever domestically
Talk about a record!
It’s honestly quite hard to keep up with all the accolades The Super Mario Bros. Movie has pulled in since launching 5 weeks back. The film keeps breaking records and securing new milestones, and yet another one has happened today.
As of today, The Super Mario Bros. Movie has crossed the $500 million mark at the North American box office. This makes it the fourth film to reach $500 million domestically in the pandemic era, coming in behind Spider-Man: No Way Home ($814.1 million), Top Gun: Maverick ($718.7 million) and Avatar: The Way of Water ($683.9 million).
More importantly, this is the first Illumination and Universal animated movie ever to surpass $500 million domestically (not adjusted for inflation.). The Super Mario Bros. Movie is also the second highest-grossing animated film of all time domestically, and the third-biggest Universal release of all time, coming behind Jurassic World and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.
