Sakurai looks back on Smash Bros. Wii U/3DS' character reveals
Does this guy ever rest?!
While Smash Bros. Ultimate may be the ‘new hotness,’ that game couldn’t exist without Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS before it. Those titles paved the way for much of the roster in Smash Bros. Ultimate, at least in the early days.
In honor of those titles, none other than Masahiro Sakurai has put together a look back at the character reveals for Smash Bros. Ultimate. You can see what Sakurai had to say about Mega Man and Pac-Man’s reveals below, but makes sure to click over for comments on many other characters.
This is the first official fighter reveal video. That said, the announcement was the same day as Trailer 1. Considering it’s the first video, it came together well! This was made by Digital Frontier. They worked on many reveal videos after this, until the release of the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate game.
Pac-Man was the new fighter announced as a surprise at an E3 2014 roundtable event. This isn’t a normal CG movie – it was made mainly as an in-house production by the BANDAI NAMCO Studios’ Super Smash Bros. team. I’ll never forget the cheers when the mouth opened on that yellow circle.
That Megaman reveal was so good!
Sakurai should also look back at Smash Run. That was a lot of fun!
