The launch of Overwatch 2 has been anything but smooth, and that’s in spite of Blizzard spending the weeks leading up to release getting both the game and players prepared. Thankfully, things appear to be somewhat smoothing out at the moment, and hopefully it only gets better from here.

As Blizzard moves away from launch struggles, the dev team is looking balance changes and more for Overwatch 2. In a new blog from the team, three specific areas of the game were singled out for tweaks and more in the coming weeks.

Hero Balance

The team is planning to make a series of balance changes for Season Two aimed to both ensure the overall game feels balanced and fair while giving each season a more distinct identity.

Maps

The team has begun to run a map pool featuring all-new locations and many original maps. Each season, Blizzard will rotate some maps out of the map pool and bring back others that had been previously out of rotation. As they continue to rotate maps in and out, the team will be looking at improving and tweaking them. Players can always play current and previous maps in a custom game or the occasional arcade mode.

Competitive

Blizzard discovered a bug that was impacting player skill ratings, which is what contributed to many players being placed in Bronze 5 when they should have been placed higher. The most recent patch included a fix that will help players quickly get back to their true rank.

If you’d like a more in-depth breakdown of the work going into these areas, you can find Blizzard’s full dev blog here.
