Pokemon Scarlet/Violet are the UK's biggest boxed launch of the year
Let the insane sales figures commence
Up until last week, FIFA 23 was the biggest boxed launch in the UK this year. Now EA’s yearly soccer game will have to settled for second place, as a new title has come in to snag the title.
While we don’t have the full UK sales data, we do know that Pokémon Scarlet and Violet have debuted in the #1 spot. That’s no real surprise, but the other tidbit of information is much more interesting. Pokémon Scarlet/Violet have managed to secure the biggest boxed game launch in the UK for all of 2022.
This would make Pokémon Scarlet/Violet the second-biggest launch for the entire Pokémon franchise in the UK. The only games to beat out Scarlet/Violet would be Sun/Moon, which arrived right when Pokémon GO was hitting its insane stride right when those titles launched.

Pretty crazy that Scarlet and Violet are outpacing Sword and Shield by that much. With Sw/Sh being the first console mainline Pokémon games and being set in a pseudo-UK region I would have expected Scarlet/Violet to fall short of beating Sw/Sh.
