Back in May of 2021, we learned that Square Enix was working on giving Dragon Quest III an HD-2D remake. We still don’t know the target platforms for that game, but considering how every HD-2D game has come to Switch, Dragon Quest III HD-2D seems like a lock.

While we wait on confirmation of a Switch version, Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii spoke to Famitsu and shared a progress update on Dragon Quest II HD-2D. While he doesn’t say much, it does seem like things are going well, and we can expect to hear more in the near future.

“We’re working hard on Dragon Quest XII and Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake! I can’t say much yet, but we might be able to deliver more news on DQIII soon. We’re grateful that people are putting big expectations on DQIII too.”

Square Enix recently confirmed that Dragon Quest will have a presence at this year’s Jump Festa, which takes place on Dec. 17th and 18th, 2022. That certainly seems like a good place to talk more about Dragon Quest III HD-2D! Let’s keep fingers and toes crossed for an update from that event.
