Just last week, some news cropped up about Jim Carrey stepping away from acting for awhile. He mentioned that he might be retiring from acting altogether, but it seemed more likely that he’d be taking an extended break. This made Sonic fans quick to worry about Carrey’s role as Dr. Robotnik in the Sonic films.

We already know that a third Sonic film is in the pipeline, so is that movie going to happen without Jim portraying Dr. Robotnik?

While the film’s producers weren’t willing to comment on that, they did say that Carrey will always be a part of the Sonic franchise. Furthermore, the team believes that Jim is so personally attached to the role that he won’t be able to stay away.

Clearly the people behind the film think that Jim will work his way back for Sonic the Hedgehog 3. Nothing is set in stone right now, but if they’re hopeful, than I guess we should be as well.

He does such a great job I can't think of another actor that can do better. Please Jim, if you are going to retire, do part 3 first.
